Our Process
Wood selection & refinement
Every Legacy Board begins with a wood slab. A slab is a thick, flat piece of wood that’s cut from a tree trunk and retains the trees natural shape and character. We use many species of wood, but some of our favorites are ambrosia maple, black walnut and rainbow poplar. Each piece is chosen for its unique characteristics and its shape.
The next several steps are lengthy and involve refining and preparing the slab to become a Legacy Board. Sanding, shaping, carving, stabilizing, sealing and any customizing happens here.
Leather work & selection
One of our signature features is our hand made leather playing surfaces. We use high end leather with a cork and fabric underlay to give you a quieter game experience. We hand cut over 60 individual pieces of leather to create a unique and beautiful playing surface. We can customize any color combination you choose - making your Legacy Board that perfect accent for your home.
Accessorizing & finishing touches
The final stage is when the entire piece comes together. This is where we get to have fun with even more color. All the accessories including the checkers, the dice, the doubling cube and the dice cups are decided upon here. If you have chosen a table, our bases and individual legs are all hand made and many are customized exclusively for Legacy Boards.
